Olea Medical designs and markets innovative medical Imaging software. Even though this company wasn’t very well known a few years ago, nowadays its reputation is incising. The reason? Its software solutions allow physicians to obtain never observed results. Let me introduce you to a growing start-up.

Journalist : Olea Medical, does this name come from the olive tree ?

Olea Medical :
Yes, it does. The legend tells that Athena gushed an olive tree out of earth and offered it to the Greeks to feed them and to protect them. Today, the olive tree is still a peace and recovery symbol and it perfectly fits with what my founders wanted to build: a company which puts human at the center of its activity and whose aim is to save lives. The olive tree is also a symbol of Provence, the region where I was created.

Journalist : How Olea Medical was born?

Olea Medical :
My founder, Fayçal Djeridane, studied computer engineering and during this period, he met Professors with whom he began a project: the development of a tool aimed at improving stroke diagnosis. The story continued 10 years later when Fayçal Djeridane and these professors decided to continue this project. Two others engineers rapidly joined them and together they designed my first software : the stoke diagnosis suite : Perfscape and Neuroscape MR.

Journalist : What was then your ambition?

Olea Medical :
My purpose was help doctors improve thid stroke diagnosis. Indeed, this pathology is devastating and needs fast decision as to the appropriate diagnosis. That’s why, my founders worked a lot and that directly with the stroke unit of la Timone in Marseille (France). It was impossible for them to sell a product which could be not perfect. Moreover, they wanted me to expend globally, and I rapidly became the mother of a North-American little girl.

Journalist :How do you see your future ?

Olea Medical :
Today and three years after my creation in July 2008, I have 30 employees, our products are FDA-cleared, CE marked and are considered by very important specialists. We remain on good track to bring new solutions in 2011. They will allow the characterization and the follow-up of brain tumors and other devastating pathologies.
